Creating Positive Impact Preciva's primary measure of success will be our impact on women's health. We will track changes in cervical cancer mortality in communities where our technology becomes the new standard of care, and we will also track what impact our technology has on reducing barriers to appropriate follow-up care for cancers detected. Often, innovators in health technology start where the money is – in high income markets – with the eventual hope of making their products more accessible to the world's poor. Preciva is taking a more direct approach to improving access: we will launch our product in India, the country currently with the world's greatest burden of cervical cancer, and where screening rates are below 6% of women who should be screened. Our system is designed to be used by community health workers. In many places, these community health workers are the peers of the women they serve. This approach improves the acceptability of our test while at the same time creating new economic opportunities for community health workers to expand the services they can provide. We will also create positive impact in other ways: Partnership with Civa Health Civa Health is a non-profit organization established as a mechanism both to protect affordable access to Preciva's technology, regardless of the company's eventual ownership, and to provide funding to innovative women's health and empowerment activities around the world. Civa Health is currently a 5% shareholder in Preciva and it has a designated seat on Preciva's Board of Directors. Civa Health's purpose is to promote greater global equity and education in women's sexual and reproductive health. Its activities will not be limited to cervical cancer screening, but it has the option of purchasing Preciva's devices at cost in low-income markets, in order to provide support to non-profit or government partners who already have effective women's health programs in place. Design for environmental sustainability Through its field portability, by eliminating the need to transport samples to the lab, and by reducing the number of visits needed for care, Preciva's products will reduce fuel and packaging use, compared to current standard screening practices. Further product innovation will always seek to reduce our use of natural resources.
