Deficiencies of the Pap Test

•   There is no direct feedback to the examiner which would improve test accuracy.

•   The test has high false negative rates. 

•   Ambiguous results are often reported.

•   Slide interpretation is subjective and laboratory reliability can be inadequate.

•   There is no immediate result at the time of the test -- laboratory turnaround time averages two weeks.
